If you are looking to revisit Lionel Messi's prime cover-star era or want to experience the tactical depth of legacy Career Modes, setting up FIFA 14 via a PKG file on the PS3 provides a stable, fast-loading, and highly customizable way to enjoy one of the finest football simulations ever created. Digital installations eliminate wear and tear on aging
The console's internal software installer unpacks these files, placing the game data, executables, and multimedia assets into the appropriate directories on the system's hard drive. In the contemporary retro gaming landscape, PKG files have become the preferred format for game preservation. Unlike traditional ISO files or folder-based game rips, which mimic the structure of a physical Blu-ray disc, a PKG file installs directly to the console's digital dashboard, allowing for seamless launching without the need for disc-emulation software. Modding and Roster Updates in the Modern Era
One of the main reasons players still download the game today is the vibrant modding scene. Because the PS3 file structure is easily accessible, community creators regularly release total conversion updates for FIFA 14. These mods include:
For retro gaming enthusiasts and archival purposes, PKG files are highly sought after because they allow users to backup their legally owned digital purchases and install them directly onto a PS3's internal Hard Disk Drive (HDD). This eliminates the need for physical Blu-ray discs, reducing wear and tear on the console's optical drive and offering faster loading times. One of the greatest benefits of utilizing a digital backup like the FIFA 14 PKG on an unlocked PS3 is the ability to apply community-made modifications. Because official EA servers for FIFA 14 have long been decommissioned, an active underground community keeps the game alive.

I'll probably maintain my fork still, but I'll probably get some queues from this, thanks!
Btw I'm not really doing anything for QuakeForge, just forking their initial code. I have my own roadmap for this, which might be more Hexen II focused.

Does this generate the bunch of QC code necessary to map frames? :D

Not Really

Alright, just in time for the Blender 2.82 export is done. Big thanks to @Khreator for giving a great insight into exporting issues.
List of features:
+ Export support
+ Support for importing/exporting multiple skins
+ Better scaling adjustments, eyeposition follows scale factor
This is still considered an alpha release. But it should be good enough.

for a long time now: Would it be possible to save a blender physics simulation as frame animated .mdl/.md3?

Enable MDD export addon. Export your simulation to MDD. Remove the sim from the object. Import MDD back into your object. You now have all of your sim frames as separate shape keys, ready to export to .mdl

Actually

Disregard that. It works fine without any of that extra voodoo, just export whatever straight to .mdl

Then let's think about practical use cases.
First think that comes to my mind are death animations, sagging bodies.
Explosion debrie might also work out.
I guess anything fluidic is out of question, like a tiling wave simulation anim.
What else comes to mind?

Flags, fire, chains, breaking doors, breaking walls, etc.
